OR-D 8K Full-Frame Web Monitoring System

A fixed-gantry line-scan viewer that images the whole plate circumference in one frame — 100–2000 mm web width at up to 1,200 m/min.

01

What it is

The whole repeat, in one frame

A fixed gantry carries an 8K line-scan camera across the full web. One image holds the entire plate circumference, so register, missing print and a streak are judged together.

01Fixed gantry

Nothing moves during a check — no rail, nothing to park or patrol.

028192 pixels across

One sensor spans 100–2000 mm; a small feature takes a small part of the frame.

0325X after capture

Zoom magnifies the captured frame; it does not resample the web.

OR-D shows the repeat. It does not alarm, reject or log every repeat — that is a different route, linked at the end.

02

Fit

Is this system the right fit?

OR-D answers one question: what does the whole repeat look like in one frame. If the job needs a patrol, or an automatic judgement, another route does that.

Fits when

  • Wide gravure, flexo or coating. The whole repeat is the unit of judgement.
  • Register and missing print judged together across lanes, in one image.
  • A static gantry is acceptable. No rail, nothing to park or patrol.
  • 100–2000 mm confirmed on your drawing, not on the catalogue range.

Does not fit when

  • The web is narrow. OR-A/B/C spend the same pixels on a small window.
  • Three saved points must be patrolled. Overseer is the patrol route.
  • The line must alarm, reject and log. That is the OK series.
  • Only small text matters on a wide web. Confirm 8K on a sample first.
01One frame, no traverse

8192 pixels across the web, 25X after the capture. Nothing moves during a check.

02Resolution spread wide

The same 8192 elements cover 2,000 mm, so a small feature takes a small part of the frame.

03Built per project

Gantry and working distance are engineered to your line, not taken from a catalogue.

The trade-off

  • You gain: the entire plate circumference in one frame — register, missing print and a streak judged together.
  • You gain: 8192 pixels across the width, with 25X zoom and no traverse delay.
  • You gain: no rail — fewer moving parts, nothing to park.
  • You give up: one fixed position; the camera cannot be sent to a second lane or a saved point.
  • You give up: resolution spread over the full width, so a small feature occupies a small part of the frame.
  • You give up: a project-specific gantry and working distance built into the line.

Design rules for a full-frame capture

01Division is the whole argument

Imaging span ÷ 8192 elements: 2,000 mm samples at about 0.24 mm; at 500 mm the same camera is four times finer.

02Span the gantry to your real width

Fix it at today’s widest print. Over-spanning puts half the sensor on open air.

03Two elements per feature, then zoom

25X magnifies the captured frame; it does not resample the web. Sub-floor marks shimmer.

04Line rate = speed ÷ pitch

1,200 m/min at 0.24 mm is roughly 83 kHz — tighten the pitch fourfold and the demand climbs with it.

05Fix the web path first

The gantry is static: confirm the web plane is parallel before the cameras are set, or one side stays soft.

06Respect the encoder

The trigger advances one element per step of web. A wrong roll diameter stretches every repeat.

04

Coverage

What the operator can judge

The camera is synced by encoder or external pulse and builds a full-frame image at up to 1,200 m/min. Judgement stays with the operator.

Registration

A register step at the end of the repeat is seen against its start, in one image.

Missing print

Gaps inside the repeat are judged against the approved sheet.

Streaks across the width

One frame holds the full width, so a band is continuous or local in a single look.

Small text

8K plus 25X post-zoom; whether your smallest text resolves depends on line speed.

What we ask you to send, so each row means something

  • Full repeat: a print carrying the plate circumference, so coverage is checked on the real job.
  • Smallest text: the smallest line you must read, so 25X is judged against a real requirement.
  • Narrowest streak or missing area you reject, for the coating or gravure case.

05

Configuration

Configuration and scope

A full-frame viewer prices as a project. These three lists settle what is in the quotation before it is written.

Included

8K line-scan camera · controller and software · cables · encoder if required

Not included

Display · freight and duty · installation travel · taxes

You supply

Stable DC24V supply · mounting gantry and space · press drawing and a sample

Three scope levels

01Camera, controller, software, cables

You mount it on an existing gantry.

Standard
02Level 1 + encoder and lighting

Higher sync, or a substrate the base light cannot serve.

Project-dependent
03Level 2 + line integration and commissioning

Multi-press or multi-line projects.

Project-dependent

Materials it runs — and what the full frame exposes

  • Wide gravure film. Register steps lane to lane show up in one image.
  • Coating and laminating webs. A tonal band across 1,600 mm is one image, not an assembled guess.
  • Pre-printed paper. The cooperative case: matte, opaque, high contrast.
  • Foil and metallised web. Mirror sheen makes the light bar as critical as the sensor.
  • Clear film. Pinholes depend entirely on backlight geometry at full span.
  • Gauge bands. Focus depth is fixed across the span, so bands read as softness.

What drives the cost

01Span

Gantry, mounting and — near 2 m — the lighting all scale with the width you commit to.

02Sensor build

8192×3 and 8192×6 are different instruments; the six-line build earns its place only when colour judgement matters.

03Sync chain

Encoder or an external pulse from the press decides who owns timing accuracy.

04Review station

Controller, software and the number of screens in the scope.

Rule of thumb: the span figure and the sync source move the total more than any camera line item. Over-spanning is the usual way buyers pay for coarser resolution than they planned.

06

Line and installation

Mounting, sync and the first frame

The gantry is fixed across the web. Web width, plate repeat and working distance are confirmed before quoting; the controller sits at the operator station.

In the set

  • 8K line-scan camera and lens
  • Controller and software
  • Gantry made to your web width
  • Encoder or external-pulse sync

You confirm

  • Web width and plate repeat
  • Gantry position, clearance and working distance
  • Display scope and lighting
  • DC24V supply at the station

Four steps to a working reference

01Fix the gantry

Span set to the width you actually run, not the catalogue maximum.

02Sync

Encoder or press pulse; one element per step of web.

03Set the light

Angle and exposure fixed at commissioning and written down.

04Capture the reference

One full-frame grab of an approved print, per job.

07

Limits

What OR-D does not do

Four limits, said plainly, because they decide the route.

01Viewer only

No automatic alarm, marking, stop or reject; the OK series does that.

02No inspection record

It shows the repeat; it does not log every repeat.

03Fixed gantry

No traverse and no saved-point patrol; Overseer is the patrol route.

044K is not a standard model

Confirm before quoting, and prove clear film or metallic ink on a sample.

08

Evidence

What we can show, and what only a sample proves

Reference images show the reference machine. They do not prove visibility on your print — a sample test does.

Product specification

Shows the 8K sensor and full-frame parameters. Does not show your final configuration.

Reference images (8)

Shows camera, gantry and software arrangement. Does not show your tooling or options.

Sample test on request

Shows whether a defect is visible on your print. It is not a guarantee of 100% detection.

Acceptance test — what we run

  • You send a print carrying the full plate repeat, the smallest text and a known defect.
  • We capture at your line speed and report whether the repeat fits 100–2000 mm in one frame, and whether the smallest text resolves at 25X.
  • You confirm gantry position, working distance, encoder interface and lighting scope on a drawing.
  • Acceptance is a complete repeat in one frame with the agreed feature visible — not a zero-defect guarantee.

Delivery

What happens after you order

Four things are confirmed with the order, in writing. Start with a sample if you want to see the frame before deciding.

Lead time

7–45 days on the confirmed configuration. We give the date with the order, and we tell you if the span or lighting moves it.

Shipping

We pack for export and quote express or sea freight against your address; duty and taxes are on the buyer’s side.

Warranty and spares

2-year machine warranty for non-human damage, lifetime technical support. Spare parts are a separate item — we send the list with the machine.

Installation and training

Remote guidance as standard. If you want an engineer on site we arrange it; travel, accommodation and the service fee sit on the buyer’s side.

Sample first, then decide. Send a print with the smallest text and one known defect — we run it and send the frame before any commitment.
