Explore China’s Printing Machines for Paper and Film: Flexo vs Offset

Quick answer: VIE does not build sheet-fed offset presses. What we build is the roll-fed printing side of the same shop: VFP-E Flexographic Printing Machine (1–6 colour, 10–50 m/min, web width up to 1200 mm), VFP-H High Speed Flexographic Printing Machine (10–100 m/min, printing width up to 1160 mm) and VLP Label Printing Machine (VLP320 / VLP480, 50–60 m/min, 320 mm / 480 mm printing width), plus VLP-W Paper cup fan printing machine for printed cup fans and VCP Plastic cup offset printing machine for the one offset job we actually build. If you are choosing between offset and flexo for printing paper or film, the deciding numbers are web width, metres per minute and how often you change colour sets.

Flexo or Offset: What Actually Decides It

  • Roll or sheet: flexo prints a moving web of film, paper or label stock in line with converting. Sheet-fed offset prints pre-cut sheets, which is a different feeding system and a different order profile.
  • Colour change frequency: a flexo unit is a stack of plate-and-anilox stations, so a repeat job with a fixed colour set holds line speed — VFP-E at 10–50 m/min, VFP-H to 100 m/min. Short runs with frequent colour changes cost wash-up time, and that is where offset’s sheet-by-sheet setup can look attractive.
  • Web width: up to 1200 mm (VFP-E) or 1160 mm printing width (VFP-H) for film and paper; 320 mm or 480 mm for the label class (VLP320 / VLP480). Narrow-web label work and 1200 mm film work are different machine classes, not sizes of one machine.
  • What runs after the printer: printing before bag making means register is set once and the bag machine never touches the ink. Label work needs a second machine — VLD Label die cutting machine at 30–200 presses/min on a 350 or 450 mm feeding width — and in most shops the cutter, not the printer, is the bottleneck.

What to Compare Between Suppliers

  • Colour units and maximum web width.
  • Line speed in metres per minute at your colour count, not at the catalogue maximum.
  • Plate mounting and wash-up time between jobs — the number that decides whether short runs pay.
  • Drying, and whether it suits the ink family your substrate needs.
  • Installed power and supply; our lines are 380 V / 50 Hz.
  • Which converting machine follows the printer, and whether it is the same supplier.

FAQ

Do you build sheet-fed offset presses?

No. Our printing machines are roll-fed flexo — VFP-E Flexographic Printing Machine, VFP-H High Speed Flexographic Printing Machine, VLP Label Printing Machine and VLP-W Paper cup fan printing machine — plus one offset unit, the VCP Plastic cup offset printing machine, which prints on cup rather than on a web.

What is the practical difference between flexo and offset for packaging?

Flexo transfers ink from a photopolymer plate through an anilox roll onto a moving web; offset transfers from plate to blanket cylinder to sheet. Offset generally wins on halftone detail on cartons and publications; flexo wins when the print is part of a roll line that goes straight into bag, cup or label making. The practical question is whether you are feeding a roll or a stack of sheets.

Can one machine print both film and paper?

The web width, drying section and ink system are set for a material family. VFP-E and VFP-H cover film and paper webs at 1200 mm and 1160 mm respectively; label and cup-fan work is a narrower class (VLP at 320/480 mm, VLP-W for cup fans). Ask for the width and the material together, not the width alone.

How many colour units do I need?

Count the colours in your worst-selling design, then add the units you would run on a second job at the same time. VFP-E is built 1–6 colour, so the decision is a build choice, not a later conversion.

What warranty and after-sales support comes with the machine?

Every VIE machine carries a 2-year warranty counted from the date the machine arrives, excluding normal wear parts, plus lifetime technical support. An engineer can be sent for on-site installation and commissioning. Lead time is 7–45 days depending on the machine type.

Conclusion

Choose on web width, line speed at your colour count and wash-up time between jobs. If the job is a printed roll that becomes a bag, a label or a cup, those three numbers decide the machine long before the print-quality comparison does.
